Basel Time, 2010, by Bettina Pousttchi

Once again the artistically devoted are making their annual pilgrimage to the art world Mecca- Art Basel. After last years slight slump due to the c€@$%s (can’t bear to write that horrible word) gossip has it that this year collectors are ready to make up for last year’s loss. The energy is incredible. If Art Basel Miami is a great place to party, Bale, or Art Basel l’original is all about the art. Here the dealers get down to business, or the art of showcasing rare and fantastic creations for an elite and fortunate few. This year, for the first time in Art Basel history, the photography specialist Sage Paris will display an exceptional collection of prints by the legendary artist Cy Twombly. Extremely uncommon, these delicate images could have only been created by looking through a lens with a painter’s eye. Exclusively produced in series of 6 examples, these highly coveted secrets by those in the know are a stunning and glorious surprise for the 41st annual art fair, and will not be available long.

With 300 galleries, 60,000 collectors, a built in film festival, book signings, live performances and an art collection that compares to any major museum, to say the artist discoveries at Basel are exciting is an understatement. If you’re not able to make it to Basel this year, do not despair! It is now possible to download the Art Basel application to your smart phone, which has an interactive 3D-Map to navigate through the exhibition halls, and view images of works displayed by the galleries. You can also stayed tuned to Artyparade, as we’ll be sure to keep you posted with an insider’s point of view of all the exciting play-by-play action happening at the biggest art fair in the world.
